Hello VW people. A couple of years ago we purchased a 73 Ghia convertible. It runs reliably, but is pretty rough on the eyes when you get up close. We are wanting to start work on it, but feel a bit overwhelmed on how to approach the project. Any advice from those of you who have been where we are at?
Thanks for the reply. We started gutting it this weekend. Engine dropped. Anyone know a good VW mechanic to send it to?
Now we are formatting the vision. Is there someplace on the web that has good pics of what it would have looked like new? Especially looking for interior shots.
Ok...here are a couple of pics. All comments and suggestions welcome!
Tom, that is a very kind offer. Perhaps before we are done we will take you up on the offer.
I really hate the roweena green. Anybody have an argument in favor of forcing that original ugliness on such a nice car? What were we thinking in the 70's? Did we really ever LIKE that color? And what the heck is a "roweena"?
Needs a new front bumper. Do we buy a new one, or spend the time and $$ to find an original? Preliminary internet searches have turned up empty. And other components....which parts do we buy new and which parts must be original?
You can see I am baffled.
We have a member from Las Vegas NV named EZ Gruv who loves that green. He has a bus we affectionately call the Trophy Whore in that color.
I don't know about the bumper, but whatever color you choose should be inside & out. The easiest way from looking at the pictures would be to go back to the original. Otherwise painting the engine compartment & trunk area can get involved.
