Thanks for starting the racing thread here Chris.

This is an inaugural event for New Mexico. It's right in our own backyard.

If you don't mind driving, there are three other races planned for the Mountain States including: one in Utah and two in Colorado for this series also.

A past 1/4 mile record holder, a PRA points champion, VW cars with fuel injection, carburation, nitrous, turbos, aircooled, watercooled (someone please let the GTI guys know), you name it are invited. This is bracket racing and a car that covers the 1/4 mile in 25 seconds has as good a chance as the faster ones to see a win light.

Our event here in New Mexico is scheduled for a Saturday afternoon and night, June 2nd. The VW's will be sharing the track with the Mopar Club and the No Bull Street Car Racing Series. There will be a lot of good racing that night.

I'm putting this one on the Calendar.

More information on the Albuquerque Race. We have the Dyno Edge as one of our sponsors. This is a chassis dyno and gives great information for tuning your drag car expecially at this elevation (5200 ft.). Chris will give you a graph showing HP, Torque, Air Fuel Mixture and other information you may need. This is a great tuning tool. I know that the chassis dyno may not be available in all towns. I have run my car several times and have got lots of good information in a short amount of time. He is going to give us 3 pulls for $70 or one hour of dyno time for $80. He can do this on Friday afternoon or Saturday morning. Track gates open at 4:00 pm. on Saturday. This will be by appointment only. Call Chris at (505) 299-3313 to reserve your spot. Check out his website http://www.thedynoedge.com Post on here when you get a time so we can come watch.
This is going to be a great race. We have not had an all VW drag race here since I have lived in Albuquerque. There will be several very fast VW's attending including a past record holder the "Snoopy" ghia driven by Eric Madson.
There are two classes to enter your car. Anyone can race and be competative. There are plenty of guys that will help you understand the drag race and get you going. Just let us know if you want to race. You will have a ball. You do not have to join the MSVWRA to race. This is a very relaxed and fun gathering for the whole family. There will also be some very fast muscle cars running on the June 2 event.
Good Times, Good Friends and it's VW related. Come on out and enjoy.

I think this first year the intent is to show up at the track and swap stories about your rides with new friends from NM and other States.

Some very cool cars and rigs were rolling in yesterday afternoon and night from Utah and Colorado. I got a glimpse of a few at the track last night. This is going to be fun. :D

For those of you who came out to watch, thank you. The crowd got treated to cars both fast and slow. The fastest VW was running 8-sec. quarter miles and the not as fast was hustling down the track in 22-seconds. In fact the runner-up in the sport class dialed in with a 22.00 and broke out in the final.

A local favorite, David Smith, went down swinging in the final elimination of the Quick Class to a fast carburated bug piloted by Randy Bowen from Denver. Another local favorite, Ernie Crowley, won the Sport Class in his dailey driver and made it to the semi final in the Quick Class with his red Ghia.

Thank you "school bus" for all the help. I really appreciate it. Thanks to all the sponsors, Ernie's wife, David's wife, Dean's wife, and Monty's wife for all there contributions and help organizing and making this event happen. Ms. Crowley, those sandwiches were a life saver at the end of the racing. Oh yeah, and thanks to the husbands and kids for there supporting roles too. :P Couldn't have been more fun from my point of view.

We got some really positive feedback from the track staff, the spectators and even the fast V-8 guys and gals. One of the V-8 guys was quoted as calling some of these VW's "bad-ass" and all "fun to watch".

This event will certainly be welcomed back next year at our track. In the mean time there are two more stops this year, one in Denver and the last in Grand Junction for the MSVWRA.
