All right peoples, took my super to the abq dragway on friday. We only made two pases before the track broke :( , but our best time was 22.675 at a stagering 56 mph. Pretty good for a stock bug I say. I will keep you all posted as that time gets lower!

Congratulations!

There used to be a '74 bug here in Albuquerque that made mid-21 sec. runs like clock work. The driver was very conservative on the lauches so not to break the transmission and was very consistent shifting the gears when the speedo showed the MPH he liked for each gear.

If you get brave and confident enough next time, give us a heads up so we can plan to come out and root for you.

the master plan is to see some 17's someday, any one know how I could beat my buddies 12.8 (not a bug) while staying air-cooled and in one piece lol.

I think 17-sec. even 15-sec. quarter miles from a daily driver are reasonable and affordable at this altitude.

The 12.8's are a different story for a relible daily driver. I often consider that if I were to invest the same amount of money in my air-cooled that your buddy has in his "not a bug", I will certainly get noticed at the track and possibly make a new VW fan out of him or maybe even send him home with his tail tucked after a race. :P

Fastest time doesn't necessarily win the race in bracket racing anyway but it's fun to watch the reaction from the water-pumpers if you get there first.
