looking for new motor

Postby deadmanink » Wed Dec 28, 2011 4:35 pm

Hi my names Michael. I have a 1979 westfaila. I went to one of the meetings but my bus was not running. Well I took it to foreign aid and had it worked on. They told me that its knocking and I would need a new engine. So my question is does anyone know anywhere local to get one? Or were would be a good place to start looking? I have been on the samba just trying to figure out what to do next. Thank you

Ok so I think I might have some good news. I picked up the bus and they said it was done. Since the shop was by Indian school I just drove it very slowly. While the knocking stoped it was backfiring a little bit. About Rio brovo it was running fine. Any idea what this might be or might have caused it? And thank-you vdubzen I called general parts before picking up the bus. They said it would be about 1400 for a rebuild.

Hydrolic lifter bled down and caused excessive valve lash. Once it pumped back up no more knock.

Good call on using General Parts instead of Foreign Aide.

Well my bearings ended up being warped so I went ahead and had general parts rebuild my motor. I Feel general parts is better for anything mechanical then foreign aid.
